“God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have MY MISSION… I may never know it in this life but I shall be told it in the next.”

 – Blessed John Henry Newman

MYMission, the Middlesbrough Youth Mission Team was launched in 2010 by Bishop Terry Drainey as a dynamic and radical youth ministry initiative serving the Diocese of Middlesbrough. We are a small team who endeavor to ensure that the needs of young people, and those who minister to them, are met.

We believe that:

  • all young people are called by God. We want them to hear that call, to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and to know the deep joy that faith in Him as the Son of God can bring
  • we are all called live our faith in Jesus Christ in relationship with each other. Living this relationship in the world should make a huge difference to us all.
  • the Church and the Eucharist – celebrating Mass together – are at the very centre of living our faith.

The MYMission Team responds to the call to serve outlined in Blessed John Henry  Newman’s prayer above – where our name comes from – by praying, by maximizing the gifts, skills and talents of each member of the team and by working to the highest of standards in order to provide the very best in Youth Ministry – to support others on their own faith journey.

We invite all young people in our schools and parishes to find their own special place of “belonging” in our “Church”. We issue this invitation through engaging, enthusing and exciting young people with a range of experiences and challenges which are rooted in scripture and Church teachings, but which resonate in their own everyday lives.

We provide activities which are highly interactive and make good use of age appropriate popular culture, drama, music, dance and media, thus enabling the MYMission Team to meet young people where they and journey with them as they explore, and begin to unravel, the mysteries of God and life.

‘We need a church capable of walking at people’s side, of doing more than simply listening to them (young people); a church that accompanies them on their journey.’
